SC sentenced Navjot Singh Sidhu to one year in jail in 34 year old case

News Desk: Former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu has been convicted in a 34-year-old case on Wednesday. The Supreme Court sentenced him to one year in jail.

Incidentally, he hit a man named Gurnam Singh on the head on December 26, 1986 in a dispute over removing of his car from the spot. Gurnam died after that. He survived in 1999 due to lack of proper evidence. He went to the Supreme Court in 2006 after being sentenced to three years imprisonment. In 2018, the Supreme Court reduced Sidhu’s sentence and fined him Rs 1,000. However, the family of the deceased filed a review petition and the verdict was stayed.
