News Desk: The Srinagar-based journalist, Mudasir Ali, who reported extensively on developments across Jammu and Kashmir for The Wire, died of a heart attack at his residence on Wednesday night. He was 33 years old and not known to be suffering from any ailment.
A graduate of the mass communications and journalism department of the University of Kashmir, Mudasir worked as an associate editor at Greater Kashmir newspaper and also freelanced for other publications.
His association with The Wire began in September 2015, months after the publication was launched, and saw him cover all the major developments from Jammu and Kashmir during this period.
Widely respected by the journalists’ fraternity in J&K, Mudasir was adept at covering both political and social developments and often volunteered to travel around to various troubled spots to ensure accuracy and capture on-the-ground voices.
His funeral in Budgam was attended by a large number of people.
The Jammu & Kashmir Editors Forum (JKEF) expressed deep sorrow over Mudasir’s death. “In this moment of grief JKEF stands with the bereaved family and prayed to almighty Allah to grant them strength to bear the loss,” said a spokesman.
Journalists, political leaders and others on social media expressed their grief at the news, and talked about how well-respected and liked Mudasir was.
