TMC launches ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye’

News Desk: The Trinamool Congress on Saturday launched its party’s campaign slogan barely two months ahead of the crucial Assembly elections, which is nothing short of a litmus test with a resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party raring to go in West Bengal.

The TMC slogan – ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye’ – adds teeth to the ‘insider vs outsider’ debate as it portrays Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the daughter of Bengal while the BJP leaders are the ‘outsiders’.

The slogan with Banerjee’s photo was put up on hoardings across Kolkata on Saturday as the state’s ruling party officially launched it from its headquarters Nabanna off EM Bypass.

“The slogan ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye’ is for people to interpret. Work related to infrastructure, education, health or industry happened in the last 10 years and now with upcoming polls, we have put it into 4 words,” TMC MP Derek O’Brien said after the launch of the new slogan.

Party secretary general Partha Chatterjee too echoed the TMC’s stand on the BJP and said that the people of Bengal “don’t want outsiders to call the shots” in the state.

“The people of the state want their own daughter who has been by their side for the last several years as their chief minister. We don’t want outsiders to call the shots in Bengal,” Chatterjee said.

The Trinamool Congress is engaged in a bitter political spat with the BJP, and the Mamata Banerjee administration is fighting the Amit Shah-JP Nadda-led brigade tooth and nail to prevent a political collapse in the 2021 Assembly elections.
