Tripura: TMC MP Sushmita Dev moved SC before campaigning for the upcoming municipal elections

News Desk: TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev moved Supreme Court and sought protection for party members in Tripura by submitting an appeal before the campaigns for upcoming municipal elections.

The party, by way of a writ petition, sought Special Investigation Teams (SIT) to probe into the acts of vandalism targeting party members, which TMC had alleged. The party also stated that they had also approached the High Court but the same was not taken up for hearing and the next date is given as November 11.

Calling even a day’s delay ‘crucial’ ahead of the polls, TMC’s petition read “The loss of each day impairs the process of election and impacts the conduct of free and fair elections. When the members of the public fear openly coming out in support of whichever party that they support, it is a loss for democracy and the ultimate sufferers are the people themselves”

The TMC also sought that the court issue directions to the state, restraining them from misusing their powers to allow petitioners to campaign in a free and fair manner.

The petition will be heard on November 11 before the bench of three justices – DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Vikram Nath.
