Uttar Pradesh: Lawyer murdered inside a district court complex in Shahjahanpur

News Desk: The law in Uttar Pradesh seems to be out of order. In a fresh incident, a lawyer was shot dead inside a district court complex in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The deceased has been identified as advocate Bhupendra Singh.

Singh, a resident of Jalalabad tehsil, visited the third-floor office in the court in connection with some case when a gunshot was heard. He was later found dead with a bullet injury in the head.

Police have recovered a country-made pistol from near the body. Initially, police said they did not find any suspect in the area and trying to ascertain whether it was a case of murder or suicide.

Meanwhile, lawyers staged a protest at the court complex demanding the arrest of the accused. However, hours later police claimed they have cracked the murder and arrested an accused.

“We have solved the case on the basis of CCTV footage. An advocate has been arrested. He accepted the crime. IG Range Bareilly is at the scene of the crime and interrogating the accused. Old enmity is said to be the cause of the crime” the report quoted senior police officer Prashant Kumar as saying.

Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati has termed the incident ‘shameful and very sad’. The BSP supremo has questioned Yogi Adityanath government over the law and order situation in the state.
