Violent protest by Punjab farmers

News Desk: The farm bills, passed by both the houses of the Parliament and are awaiting presidential assent, led to widespread protest across the nation. Leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Derek O’Brien and many others criticised the center for such an attack on the farmers. Even various farmer groups called the Bharat Bandh to protest these bills and it was backed by the opposition Congress party.

Farmers of states hit the streets and roads to protest against the ‘anti-agricultural’ farm bills. Punjab made the violent protest on Saturday. Earlier they said that they won’t let the BJP government enter their villages. The farmers extended their ‘Rail Roko’ agitation till September 29.

The State Secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti, Sarwan Singh Pandher said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is blaming the opposition for instigating us. This is not correct. We have read the ordinances (now bills). The corporates have pushed PM Modi to introduce these changes. We are getting support from farmers across the country; this is a very big people’s movement. He will have to repeal these bills, he will not be able to pull off these changes on ground”
