West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announces plans to rebuild Digha, slams PM Modi for running political vendetta against the state

News Desk: Addressing a press conference on Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announces plans to rebuild Digha as it suffered heavily due to Yaas cyclone. The chief minister also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over handling of Covid-19 and claimed that PM Modi is running political vendetta against the state as he is unable to accept defeat.

She said “Digha is one of the holiest tourist destinations in Bengal. I started the Digha-Tamluk train because I already knew how potential Digha was. Many measures were taken to decorate Digha. But four cyclones like Amphan, Yas have ruined everything. All places including Digha, Tajpur, Mandarmani have been damaged. There are three plans to decorate Digha. Relief camps have been set up to help the victims. Steps have been taken to repair the shops damaged by the storm. How to cope with the wrath of nature, a committee has been formed in this regard”

“5 crore mangroves are being planted in East Midnapore. We have received applications from the victims. After receiving the applications, investigation has been done, truth has been verified. 19 lakh people have got access to government facilities. We want to implement Digha, Sunderban, Ghatal Master Plan quickly. We haven’t got 700 crore during the time of Farakka water deal. The state government did not get the money it deserved from the center” she added.

At the press conference, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also slammed PM Modi for praising Yogi Adityanath over handling of Covid-19 and slammed him for his attempt to defame and malign West Bengal.

She said “Just because it is a BJP-ruled state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving certificate to UP. Bengal had to keep strict vigil so that bodies don’t enter Bengal but everyone has seen lines of bodies from Uttar Pradesh floating in the river. UP failed to manage the second wave”

“We need 14 crore vaccine doses but we are not receiving adequately. We received only 2.12 crore vaccines. We have bought 18 lakh vaccines ourselves. Some states are receiving more vaccines and some are not receiving at all” she added.

When asked about post poll violence in the state, she said “PM Modi knows very well that there is no rule of law in Uttar Pradesh. How many commissions has he sent there? From Hathras to Unnao, so many incidents happened. Even they don’t spare journalists. They want to defame Bengal”

“Instead of submitting the NHRC report, they leaked it. They should respect the court. If it’s not a political vendetta, how can they leak the report? They are maligning the people of Bengal” she added.

She also said “Now that the Covid situation has improved, I will go to Delhi during the parliament session and meet some leaders there. I will meet the President and Prime Minister if given an appointment”
