“You will stay at the Bagbazar Women’s College till your residences are rebuilt”: Mamata Banerjee

News Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday visited a slum in north Kolkata’s Bagbazar area that was destroyed in a fire. She walked around the area and promised that affected people will be provided with food and shelter till their shanties were rebuilt.

She said “Till the situation was taken control of yesterday, I was in constant touch with the authorities here. Fire station, disaster management team, police, volunteers, they all worked together to bring the fire down. After everything came under control, our first responsibility was to arrange food and shelter for you all. The entire area will be cleaned by tomorrow. Then Kolkata Municipal Corporation will build houses for you as they were earlier. Don’t worry about anything”

She added “Please don’t worry about anything. I’m giving Mayor and police the responsibility to take care of everything. There’s no need to fear. We will take care of everything”

She further added “We’ll feed all of you till your houses are built. Each family will get five kg of rice, lentils, vegetables, and milk for children. You will stay at the Bagbazar Women’s College till your residences are rebuilt”

She also asked the state minister and local MLA Shashi Panja to provide them with adequate number of blankets.
