Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM and the changing equations in Bengal story

News Desk: The arrival of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has created a fuss in the political world of West Bengal. Earlier it was two sections and now Owaisi’s entry created a third section in the state. Saffron supporters wants Hindu Raj in the state; TMC supporters wants complete secularism and now the third section are the ones who are aiming to make West Bengal a completely Muslim state.

But to some extent the AIMIM chief can change equations for the two big parties of the state – TMC and BJP. Left and Congress can hardly gain anything from Owaisi and his AIMIM party.

All India Trinamool Congress (AITC)

Few days back some members of AIMIM joined TMC and claimed “Mamata Banerjee is the most secular leader”. So Muslims of the state are clear and obvious supporters of Mamata Banerjee. But with Owaisi’s entry there can be a split in the Muslim vote. But it won’t affect the ruling TMC much as majority Muslims are in favour of Mamata Banerjee. But Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM can gain a lot from Mamata Banerjee’s TMC if the former teams up with the latter as minority vote came out as a big factor these days and it will also play an important role in the upcoming 2021 election.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

The Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the biggest opposition of the TMC in the state.

At a rally in Jalpaiguri Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said “To divide the Muslim votes, the BJP is spending crores of rupees to bring in a party from Hyderabad. The plan is that BJP will eat into Hindu votes, and this Hyderabad party will eat into Muslim votes”

In reply the AIMIM chief said “Nobody can buy Asaduddin Owaisi. Her allegation is baseless and she is restless. She should worry about her own home, so many of her people are going to BJP. She has insulted the voters of Bihar and the people who voted for us”

The arch rival is always known for establishment of Hindu Raj in the state. So even if Owaisi works as an individual party, it won’t affect BJP at all. But if AIMIM teams up with TMC in the upcoming 2021 election then it will surely be a matter of serious worry for the arch rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Even if AIMIM teams up with the BJP, then chances of losing Muslim seats will be more for Owaisi as it’s quite obvious from the last few years that BJP is anti-Muslim.

Left and Congress

The impact of the ruling TMC and the arch rival BJP is much deeper in West Bengal. The Left and the Congress were former rulers of the state but in recent days they hardly created any impact. If Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM teams up with the Left and the Congress, then together they can gain some seats but coming to power won’t be possible for them.

Overall, the current scenario is such that Asaduddin Owaisi and his AIMIM alone won’t be able to create any impact in the state. For the AIMIM chief, the best option now is teaming up with Mamata Banerjee’s TMC so that Muslim votes don’t get separated and it will benefit Muslims the most.
