Bareilly Police arrested two people for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh

News Desk: Bareilly Police has arrested two people for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh. The woman was allegedly gangraped by six men on May 31 when she had gone out with two friends.

However, the woman lodged a complaint with the police only on Saturday due to the fear of social stigma. Her medical report has not yet arrived. Her statement will be recorded before a magistrate on Monday.

The accused, identified as Vishal Patel and Anuj Patel, were arrested on Sunday. Vishal Patel, 22, was nabbed after a few rounds of exchange of fire, during which he was shot in his leg. He has been admitted to a hospital. A country-made pistol was recovered from his possession. Anuj Patel, 23, was arrested during a combing operation. Four other accused are still absconding.

The survivor, a student of Class 11, said she had gone for a ride on a scooty with two of her male friends and stopped at a temple in the village. Soon, two of the accused started misbehaving with her and even thrashed one of her friends till he fell unconscious. The other friend managed to flee.

The woman said the group of six then dragged her to a field and raped her.

“The accused then dragged the victim to a nearby field and gangraped her. They later left the place after threatening the victim with dire consequences if she reported about the incident to anyone,” Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.

Upon returning home, she did not narrate her ordeal to anyone as she was mentally disturbed, the police said. However, her elder sister found her visibly upset and pressed her to figure out what happened. She then narrated the entire incident before her family.

On Saturday evening, the survivor went to the local police station and filed an FIR. She also gave names of the accused by which they had addressed each other.
