Bhawanipore bypoll: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee files nomination, local supporters organised hawan

News Desk: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, on Friday, filed her nomination papers for the bypolls to the Bhawanipore seat. She entered the survey building at two in the afternoon with four proposers – Bablu Singh, Meeraj Sha, Nispal Singh Rane and Ishmath Hakim, and an election agent Baishyanor Chatterjee – to submit her nomination.

After her nomination, TMC leaders launched the #MamataBanerjeeForBhabanipur campaign on Twitter.

Local supporters organised hawan

Local TMC supporters of her area organised a hawan for her outside her residence. Few TMC supporters also came out in Khela Hobe T-Shirt. When she came out of her residence, people greeted her from their verandah.

Local TMC leader Bijon Roy said “The mood is that we are welcoming our own girl once again. See all the houses … all are greeting her from there. We will not create crowd due to Covid but ‘Khela Hobe’ is what we want to say”

BJP fielded Priyanka Tibrewal against chief minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhawanipore bypolls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of West Bengal fielded lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal against chief minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhawanipore bypolls on September 30.

Speaking to reporters after the announcement, Tibrewal said “I have been working for the people for the last 8-9 years. I have filed PILs for people to get justice, which will continue. Giving me the ticket was high command’s instruction and I’m thankful to them for that. The top leadership thinks I’m the right candidate against chief minister Mamata Banerjee and they also saw how I interact with the common people”

“I have defeated the chief minister in the high court in the first fight. Because when she said there was no violence, I proved there was violence and the court order proves this too. The way we have seen people being killed in West Bengal, the murders, rapes, vandalism. But the chief minister has been silent. Our fight is against that silence” she added.

When asked whether she’ll be able to defeat chief minister Mamata Banerjee or not, she said “Mamata Banerjee is a two-time MLA from Bhabanipur but I was born there. It is my ancestral house, so I was born and brought up in Bhabanipur. I believe Mamata Banerjee doesn’t want the votes of outsiders or Hindi-speaking people. Certainly, she will get a befitting reply”
