Curfew imposed in Amalapuram town after agitated mobs set fire to the house of leaders and ministers

News Desk: In protest against the renaming of Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district, agitated mobs set fire to the house of MLA P Sathish. They also set fire in front of state transport minister Pinipe Viswarup’s house. Police used batons and fired to handle the situation. The protesters pelted stones at the police. Curfew was imposed in Amalapuram town.

In early May, the Andhra Pradesh government announced the formation of thirteen new districts in the state. Among them was Konasima district inhabited by Scheduled Castes. The state government said that thw district will be named after BR Ambedkar. Residents of Konaseema district protested against this decision.
