“If you point a gun at me I will show you the armoury. But I don’t believe in politics by the gun”: Mamata Banerjee

News Desk: Addressing a public rally in the Hooghly district on Monday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee slammed her arch rival Bharatiya Janata Party over the Victoria Memorial controversy of January 23. The Chief Minister accused the BJP of insulting Bengal and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

She said

“If you had raised slogans on Netaji I would have saluted you. But what you did was an insult to Bengal and Netaji. You have named the birthplace of Tagore wrong. You have destroyed Vidyasagar’s statue. You garlanded a wrong statue thinking it was Birsa Munda.

I went to their programme and some aggressive, fanatic traitors dared to tease me in front of the PM. They don’t know me. If a motherly woman requests me to wash the utensils at her home I would do that because I love to do homely chores. But if you point a gun at me I will show you the armoury. But I don’t believe in politics by the gun. This is not a political programme. Government programmes should have some dignity. It is not fair to insult someone you have invited.

You can insult me. I won’t get blisters but don’t insult Bengal. Bengali film actresses are being threatened that would be raped if they go out of Bengal.

Those of you who have lined up (to quit the party) leave at the earliest. Else you will miss the train. Bengal doesn’t need you. TMC doesn’t need you. I don’t care. TMC wouldn’t have given you tickets to contest the elections and so you are leaving in fear”
