Tripura: BJP disallowed TMC’s mega rally

News Desk: The Biplab Deb led BJP government of Tripura denied permission to the TMC’s first ever mega-rally, under the leadership of the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, in Agartala on September 15. Permissionfor September 16 was denied too by the state police, when sought. The police said that September 17 is Vishwakarma Puja, so permission can’t be given.

Seeing such excuses from the Tripura police, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee tweeted “BJP is SCARED TO DEATH and @BjpBiplab is using all his might & resources to prevent me from entering Tripura. Keep trying but you CANNOT stop me. Your fear of @AITCofficial shows that your days in governance are numbered. Truth be told, YEH DARR HUMEIN ACHHA LAGA!”

On this TMC leader of Tripura, Subal Bhowmik said “They have given instruction to Police to harass us, how can they deny permission for two consecutive days. Democracy is not there Tripura needs change”

TMC General Secretary Kunal Ghosh said “To prevent Abhishek Banerjee’s rally in Agartala, the BJP conspired in numerous ways. Such conspiracies would not stop Abhishek Banerjee and the Trinamool in Tripura. They are afraid of Abhishek Banerjee’s political strength. Police cancelled TMC’s rally on Wednesday after political directions”

West Tripura district police chief Manik Lal Das said “BJP Mahila Morcha earlier sought permission to hold a rally in Agartala on Wednesday. We cannot allow two parties to hold rallies in Agartala at the same time. Moreover, the geographical position of the city does not permit two mega rallies at the same time”

Anirban Das, sub-divisional police officer, Sadar, in a letter to TMC leader Subal Bhowmik, on Monday, said “On further review, it was also found that another political party will organise the mass rally in the same route as prayed from your end. As such, from the perspective of security and law and order, the protest rally of yours on September 15 from 14:00 hrs is not permitted”

The BJP denied all allegations and said that they don’t have any intention to stop TMC. Rather they alleged that the TMC is trying to create chaos in the state for electoral gains in the upcoming election.
