Debjit Mukherjee: Who is behind the violence in Manipur? India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar answered from the international stage.
In a meeting of the ‘Council for Foreign Relations’ chaired by US Ambassador to India Kenneth Jaster, Foreign Minister Jaishankar was heard saying that Myanmar refugees are at the root of the violence in Manipur. “There is unrest in parts of Manipur for refugees. It has a long history. The state and central governments are trying to bring peace there. A lot of weapons have already been seized.” he said.
It is to be noted that 700 people entered the fiery Manipur from Myanmar in just two days last July.
