Bengal post-poll violence: CBI questioned TMC leader Sheikh Sufiyan in Haldia, leader alleged harassment

News Desk: TMC leader and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s election agent in the Nandigram assembly electionSheikh Sufiyan was questioned by CBI for more than four hours in connection with the post-poll violence in the state in a central government guest house in Haldia town where a CBI team is camping. The TMC leader was accompanied by a lawyer.

“I was unnecessarily harassed”: TMC leader Sheikh Sufiyan

The TMC leader said that he was unnecessarily harassed and he had no hand in any violence. Claiming himself as a soldier of Mamata Banerjee, he said that he can’t be scared easily.

He said “I was unnecessarily harassed. I was not involved in any violence. Suvendu Adhikari made the CBI question me. He is pulling the strings. We are the soldiers of Mamata Banerjee. We are not scared easily”

CBI officials said why Sheikh Sufiyan was summoned

The CBI has questioned many TMC district leaders during its probe. But, this is the first time a leader close to chief minister Mamata Banerjee was summoned.

An official said that the TMC leader was summoned in connection with the death of a BJP worker, named Debabrata Maity, who was allegedly attacked by TMC goons on May 3. He died at Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital on May 13.

The CBI recorded the statement of the dead BJP worker’s family on September 3.
