“The BJP took India to darkness, it will be ‘Khela Hobe’ till it’s ousted from Centre”: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

News Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, addressing her supporters virtually during the July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally, said ‘Khela Hobe’ until the saffron party is removed. She also claimed that the Center is interested only in violence, divisive politics, clashes and mistrust among people.

She said “The BJP took India to darkness, it will be ‘Khela Hobe’ till it’s ousted from Centre. Khela’ will happen in all states until BJP is removed from the country. We’ll celebrate ‘Khela Diwas’ on Aug 16. We’ll give footballs to poor children”

Attacking the Modi government over the Pegasus spyware row, she said “I know my phone is being tapped. All opposition leaders know that our phones are being tapped. I can’t speak to NCP leader Sharad Pawar Ji or other opposition leaders or chief ministers because we are being snooped and spied on by the Centre. Before the assembly polls, I was in a meeting with our party leaders. My phone was there. They recorded everything. But snooping on us won’t save them in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. See I have put a plaster on the camera of my phone. The Government of India should be plastered, or else the country will be in ruin. Instead of a democratic state you want to have a surveillance state”

“Three things make democracy – media, judiciary and the Election Commission – and Pegasus has captured all three” she added.

Urging the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the Pegasus spyware row, she said “My humble regards to our Hon’ble Supreme Court. Why can’t the court take suo motu cognisance when judges’ phones are tapped?… Either take suo motu cognisance or set up a Special Investigation Team monitored by you to know whose phones were affected.… Only the judiciary can save democracy”

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also thanked leaders of the Congress, NCP, SP, Shiv Sena and several other parties for joining her rally virtually from New Delhi.

On her recent poll victory, she said “We want to congratulate the people of the country and my state. We fought against money, muscle, mafia power and all agencies. Despite all odds, we won because people in Bengal voted for us and we received blessings from people in country, world”

Urging other party leaders to form an alliance against the BJP in the next Lok Sabha polls, she said “I don’t know what will happen in 2024 but we have to start our planning now… We will not be defeated. I am confident we will win. Only two and a half years are left until the elections. Let us form an alliance and show the path to the nation. I am a worker. I will follow you and your instructions. Chairs do not last forever but love of the people lives on”

“If our front comes to power we will give free ration to the entire country” she added.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said “Modi Ji I am not criticising you as a person but you and Amit Shah Ji have only come up with dark laws. You only want violence and disturbance. India is the land of Swami Vivekananda, Nehru, A P J Abdul Kalam and Bhagat Singh. India needs development and integrity. But all we can see is despair and instability”

“The people of Bengal wants development, harmony, which was why they did not support you. All the country, the world, was watching the Bengal elections” she added.
