TMC workers shot dead at the day of Shahid Diwas at North 24 Parganas, party blames BJP

News Desk: A 38 year old TMC worker, Suvrajit Dutta, was shot dead on Wednesday night, on the day of Shahid Diwas, in Birati by three bike-borne assailants. Dutta along with other party activists also organised a program at Birati, where the party supremo’s virtual rally was screened for TMC workers. After the program ended around 3:30 pm, Dutta stayed back in the party office and decided to return to his house late at night when he encountered the bike-borne miscreants.

The Nimta police rushed to the spot. According to the police, the victim has five-six bullets injury marks on his body. Further investigation is on to ascertain the identities of the miscreants and the motive behind the attack.

Nimta TMC President Bidhan Biswas said “21st July is a very significant day for us. But today one of our party workers was killed at the hands of the BJP. We condemn this. We also demand stringent punishment for the accused. We express our condolences to the kin of the deceased’s family” 

In another incident, two TMC activists, Laxmibala Mandal and Sannyasi Sardar, were shot dead by miscreants in Tangramari village of Mohanpur panchayat, in North 24 Parganas district’s Minakhan, around 3pm on their way back from the virtual meeting on the occasion of the party’s annual martyr’s day event on Wednesday.

Tensions are running high following the shooting in the village. According to police and local sources, the area belongs to the Haroa police station under Minakhan assembly constituency. The virtual meeting on the occasion of TMC’s ’21st July’ annual programme, where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the chief speaker, was being broadcast in Tangramari Media Para of Bachhra Mohanpur Panchayat.
